Friday Theme - 6 Month Check Up N.O. 2

img_9226.jpg

June 27thA while back I started with Friday theme through another blogger. I liked the concept because it was meant to show your pictures for a specific theme. One of the themes is always the 6 month check up. The Friday theme kind of "died" a while back but the 6 month check up persisted.

January Colors I came back from W in early January and landed in very interesting weather. Temperatures increased enough to make the snow start to melt, but then the temperature dropped again and created magical color shows. [gallery type="slideshow" ids="1948,1949,1950,1951,1952,1953,1954,1955"]

February Lights Temperature dropped and brought some beautiful light shows. [gallery type="slideshow" ids="1958,1959,1960,1961,1962"]

Cold weather and ice bar go really well together. [gallery type="square" ids="1967,1968"]

March and "spring madness": When March arrives people go crazy, not literally but we gain so much daylight and birds are starting to find their way back.

And I all of a sudden had done my very first marathon, it just happen to be a ski race, something I realized after the fact.. The day of the ski race I woke up to -30C...and I did not feel like doing any kind of race at that point. But i finished!

The temperature increased enough for Tycho to venture out into the snow. [gallery type="square" ids="1970,1969"]

We went to Denali, one of many trips to Denali this spring, just so we could get enough of it before tourist season came around [gallery type="square" ids="1980,1981"]

April: We went to Denali again and again. And I think that spring officially arrived with the blooming willow. [gallery type="square" ids="1982,1983,1984"]

May: In may we drove down to Anchortown to catch the flight to Portlandia, and that was about it for may, except a couple of days on the trails [gallery type="slideshow" ids="1985,1986,1987"]

June and summer madness!!!: June finally arrived, and so did the rain. We have had so much rain, but still quite a few sunshine moments. [gallery type="slideshow" ids="1988,1989,1990,1991"]

And the summer just keeps going and going. Lots of Rain, but still summers in Alaska are pretty fabulous.

Hope you guys have an Awesome weekend!!!

Friday Theme - Six Month Checkup

Since me and W went to Chicago last Friday I completely forgot about the Friday theme. Some of the themes this year have been hard for me, and others I just haven't had time to sit down and write them. But one theme I do love is the six month checkup. Because you go through six months of your life, and present some pictures that you feel represent the different months and what you were doing then.

July:

July came and we finally had a real summer, with temperatures around 30 C frequently. It got that hot already in June too, which is pretty rare. Of course everyone were worried about the forest fires. But this year wasn't as bad as one would have thought. Although we did have a fire close to Fairbanks....but that one was caused by the military who had an artillery training during red flag...(no comments...)...  so yeah that fire continued during the whole summer, along with a few others of course. The weather was hot, the mosquitos and black flies were really bad, and the smoke was pretty bad from time to time.

Smoky Fairbanks
Olive in smoky sunlight
Tycho

I always take pictures of the cats, this one on the left side is one of my favorites of Olive. The light was really special because of the smoke from the fire. And Tycho of course, above.

I also had a wonderful garden and made jam and pickles throughout the summer :)

I had long field days, early morning and late evenings

August:

In August it started to rain, and by the end of august a naked Fall had arrived. In early August i went down to Ninilchik to see Trampled by Turtles and Brandi Carlile. It was a typical Alaskan festival, with rain, Extra Tufs, and a little bit of sunshine.

As the leaves were turning colors temperature were starting to drop and the last leaves of the fireweed flowers were soon gone too. I shipped Olive to Madison and Tycho was wondering what happened to her. And then I got a full load of wood for the winter that was approaching.

September:

September came, and I went to Missoula and saw one of the most beautiful weddings ever! Such a beautiful location to have a wedding. I really want to move to Montana!!

In Fairbanks the temperatures had already dropped significantly [gallery type="slideshow" ids="1135,1390"]

October:

October arrived with Aurora of course

[gallery type="slideshow" ids="1716,1717,1718,1719,1720"]

November:

November arrived with snow, finally!! And colorful sunsets, and sunrises.

[gallery type="slideshow" ids="1536,1529,1528,1533"]

December:

December came with freezing temperatures, but beautiful sunsets and sunrises, and Aurora again.

And then I got to Madison and me and W adventured out to Chicago for some real spring weather, around 50 F!!

Happy New year to you! Hope your year was as awesome as mine!

Friday Theme - Black and White Portrait

This Friday I am jumping on the Friday Theme train again. I haven't really done the Friday Theme in a loong time. Mostly because some of the themes have been tricky, and other times I just haven't had time. So todays theme is "Black and White Portrait", and I usually don't like adding pictures of other people on my blog (it happens every now and then but not today) so I figured I could turn a recent photo into black and white...or white and grey I guess, since that is how most editing programs make them, and yes I am sure there are some specific things you can do to edit the program filters but I like the greyscale black and white :).

Self Portrait1

This photo above was of course a "color" picture originally, and I actually took it yesterday while skiing to school/work, it was -34C and I felt really cold for once... I really liked my eyes in this photo and wanted to highlight them, so I decided to make it black and white and then use one of the "tools" in the picture editing program to "brush away" the black and white. Now I did this, and was thinking: Man this is bulls€%, it doesn't do its work correctly... So I changed my way of doing it and decided to brush in black and white on the whole photo, but the eyes. And then I realized that my eyes really are that blue in this photo. I thought the brushing out black and white didn't work because the eyes were so blue. My eye color is generally blue green and depending on what I am wearing, or the surrounding colors they shift between those two colors. So I guess that yesterday my blue side of my eyes was enhanced, and of course it's only a photo :).

Here is another black and white photo I made from a photo. A really good friend of mine took it with my camera when I was in Rome to visit her.

In Rome
In San Fran

This photo below, W took last year in San Fransisco. Both of us were so happy because the weather in San Fransisco was so much better compared to Fairbanks. This was last December.

When we are at it, I want to share some of my other black and white photos I have taken.

Bison in Yellowstone

This photo above is from Yellowstone. W's family usually go there every christmas/new year, and I love it. Below are some photos taken with my iphone that I made black and white [gallery type="rectangular" ids="1619,1620,1621,1622,1623"]

Happy Friday!!
