Drip, Drop, Drip, Drop

Drops on a branch

Two weeks ago we had temperatures down to 40 below, the other day, 40 F. As in PLUS 40 F. Major things are happening throughout Alaska, this is very rare, but not unheard of. Currently Homer (according to my weather app) has 50F!!! The road to Valdez is closed, due to several avalanches that now have snow burying the road, in some place even 50-70 feet deep (or more). The first day it felt nice, but then as the temperature continued to stay pretty warm things got less exciting. Ice building up everywhere, roads and ski trails. Causing businesses and schools to close. Water dripping from the trees, leaving less and less snow cover on the ground.

The days are getting longer and longer, and the sun is really intense!! In the mornings when the sun is just right, it lights up the greenhouse and gives it this beautiful shiny light. Looks so warm.

We are also having these amazing sunrises, of course, as I have bragged about earlier.

And now the temperature has dropped a bit, again. We will see how long it lasts. But hey, it is only January, and we still have a couple of months (or rather we should have a couple of months) until spring arrives. I am sure the temperatures will drop drastically pretty soon. I am itching to get out skiing again, preferably on snow and not on ice..

Have a nice week!

What is in the past?

October 23:Hello again, I promised to make this a habit, posting something every day. And as a result, some days are going to be shorter than others.

But I really like being able to show my view of the world, no matter if it happened a year ago, now or six months ago.

We had some snow a month ago or so, but not a whole lot. Still waiting and waiting and waiting...

Friday Theme, Abstract

No, I did not forget about friday theme, actually I started early (7.30) friday morning with this post, but this Friday theme was a little tricky again so I never had time to finish it before I had to go down into the lab, and yes, now its Saturday again. It seems like the weeks past so fast. This Sunday I am going to watch the start of White Mountains 100 so I might have some pictures to share next week.

Anyway, back to Friday theme which is "abstract". Sometimes when I have a hard time figuring out what to post for these friday themes I go to the dictionary to read the definition. So we are focusing on shapes, patterns, lines, the form, structure, colours and everything in between. Something that is being captured in a way it would usually not be seen. What I love the most about these themes, is that it is totally up to you how you want to present the theme, the photographers eye.

Bridge

I took these pictures below when we were going down to Cantwell to backcountry ski last weekend. It was early morning and the sun was just rising and created this beautiful light. And as we approached on of many bridges I reached for my camera and snapped some pictures. It has evolved that way, cause W is always driving and he doesn't want to stop at every single pullout, so I am used to taking pictures from the window. And a lot of my really good pictures have been taken through the window in the car, in motion. Sometimes I pull down the window, but with -20 to -40 degrees, that is not always an option anyone likes.

Bridge3

We crossed at least two bridges, this one below is the second:

Light poles

Wow, now when I think about it, I do have quite a few pictures that are abstract in their own way:

Snow

I do have a tendency to take pictures on shapes, and forms:

Stone
Patterns

I love taking pictures from the plane:

Mountains
Building

Buildings often make interesting patterns:

structure

Stairs, and also structures inside buildings:

stairs
Door
Spiderweb

But, nature is the best in making interesting patterns:

Birch
Flowers

Flowers do a great job:
