Friday Theme, Buttons

Buttons buttons buttons, I wish I had some pictures on my computer of the buttons I usually press on in the lab, but I don't think I have. But I can tell you that you do have to have your tounge right in your mouth to not screw things up. This picture my mom took of me and D in the lab, I am to the right and this is the place i spend most of my time in, during the summertime, and as I said, it involves a lot of buttons, even though you don't see them here... But I do have some buttons, like here on this machine :) I can't say that our stove has that many buttons but a few..

These machines has a few buttons, and we are driving arounf on these in the summer time.

I really wish I had some more to contribute to this friday theme, but I don't really have any more pictures of this. However, I can let you all know that the talk I had today, went pretty well. I wish I had done a better job but i have a few weeks to practice on it for the San Francisco meeting.

I want to end with this song, that can really make you feel extremely confident. Should have played a couple of more times before the talk I had today though. Anyway, Happy Friday! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J91ti_MpdHA]

Friday Theme, Cooking Food

About that, I have gotten into this tendency to not cook food. W is doing that most of the time, it's not that I don't know how to, it's more the fact that W always takes the initiative for it. When I go to the store I buy all sorts of different ingredients, with no specific dish in mind, or at least my head knows what I can make with all the ingredients. W on the other hand, always writes down exactly what meal it will be for each day of the week...So I usually pick up around the house, chop fire wood, start the fire in the woodstove, feed the cats, do the dishes (most of the time..), and then when I am done I usually have an awesome meal to eat. Very balanced eh? I do know how to cook though, as I said. I love having nice dinners with friends, and when W was gone Marie came over and I made pizza dough, and then we created our own pizzas, Beautiful Marie who moved to Seattle, I guess Fairbanks winters does that to you...

The end product was beautiful

W was gone most of the summer and I didn't only eat ice-cream ;)

I also had a garden, so I got some vegetables from there, Got some potatoes when we got back from the trip down south We also made some pickled beets...which we still havent tried....I really hope they are good and we bought some meat chickens that we processed this summer. We got some Halibut in Homer So this is what we use for our dinners, as much as we can. And, right now our freezer is pretty full. Halibut fish tacos...mmmm If you only tried fried halibut before, you totally missed out. I had only tried fried halibut before and I can't believe how someone can destroy this nice piece of fish by frying it!!

Speaking about the summer, we actually celebrated midsummer too, at Maries place, and there was some cooking involved in that, even though I probably wasn't the one who did the most. But I had a fabulous time.

Happy Friday!

Friday Theme, Something new

The theme for this Friday is Something New, and everything is relative, right, so a lot of things can be new, even though they are a little older ;)However, I actually did buy something new just the other day, and it made me kind of broke. But, this will keep me safe on the roads :) Actually biking in cold weather is not as horrible as it seems, it's exactly like biking any other time, you just have to make sure you are dressed well enough. Being cold is not Fun. I might do a blog post about winter clothing and biking or doing other activities in the cold, cause I feel like I had experience enough to have a say about it :) So if this is something you want to learn more about you should stay tuned..

Other new things I bought was a pumpkin. 10$ at Freds, pretty good I must say. Remember that a lot or rather all of the vegetables being sold up here off season is shipped from somewhere else, guess that is kind of the price you have to pay for living here.. Trust me, it will be carved...eventually, I never done it before so I was planning on doing it with some friends who know more than I do :) One good thing about living up here around this time is that the outside can serve as an extra freezer, so no worries about this pumpkin going bad if I carve it too early. The biggest problem would be the neighbors dog eating it, or the fox or the moose.

This summer we moved into a new cabin, it's not ours, we are just renting it. Bit it is new to us, and spending the winter in it is new too.

It might not look as much, but this little cabin is called the dry cabin mansion by our friends. This is really an upgrade compared to what I/we had before. The outhouse even has a door, now that's some serious upgrade right there. And the house has a foot pump and a 35 gallon water tank. A wood stove, two floors, and yes you can actually walk around upstairs. Nice kitchen area, living room/dining area, workspace, bed space and tv space. So definitely an upgrade and new for us this winter.

Anyway, now its back to work, Happy Friday
