"As far as I can see, there's Nothing Out There"

Another dark day in History

A while back I never thought it would ever be a question, a question if climate change was real or not. Back in the day when I was shielded by my narrow-minded brain which refused to let signs and suggestions in, that in the future we would be at a point where we would have to defend the fact that climate change is real, and research is important. To the point when a president who doesn't believe in climate change is elected, swears in, and moments later deletes the whole climate change section from the white house web page. I think we all kind of knew this could/would happen, I mean we had already seen other webpages being "censored" and climate change talk disappear. Scientists and researchers had days before the inauguration screened every inch, okey tried to screen every inch, of important climate related fact and copy it, so that it would not disappear into thin air once the new president elect reached his presidency. Yes, really, it has come to this.

In this day and age, I feel like we need to stand up more, fight more and educate more. Instead of a government in support of studying climate change, preserve and conserve nature we are now left with this:

My heart bleeds a bit, and i feel like throwing up. What are your feelings about this matter? In the meantime I'm just gonna leave this video here for you, to watch.

Wilder

Flashback Friday

There are more women than men in Alaska, and the saying goes:

"The odds are good, but the goods are odd"

Wilder

About five years ago I moved into a dry cabin for the very first time in my life. Across the driveway lived this guy from Montana, a bearded man with a love for ecology and kombucha. Our very first interaction was when he came over to my cabin and offered me some homemade kombucha, and maybe you could say that the rest is history. So, I guess both the odds and the goods were good for me!

Match Made in Heaven?

Both me and W are interested in fire ecology, mountains, adventure and everything else in between. We enjoy the outdoors, hate crowded places and need our precious adventurous cocktails and homemade 4 course dinners from time to time. W is a foodie, and I am too, so we try to find awesome restaurants as soon as we travel somewhere. We strive to make as much as we can from scratch, and I think we do a good job!

Traveling kind?

We like to travel to our destinations off season, because we can't handle crowded places. When we drove from Alaska to Wisconsin, and stopped in Banff, we drove into the huge parking lot by Lake Louise. We stopped the car and looked at each other and said, no way, let's leave. We made a quick sandwich with our food and were on the road again within 5 minutes. People might call us crazy but that was just too much for us, we went to another parking lot, and hiked a short distance and had the whole world to ourselves. That is how most of the National Parks work, both in Canada and the US. Fewer people actually venture off the main road. I get that, people are busy, and really don't have time to go somewhere off  the main road, but we do!

How do you feel about crowded and touristy places?

3800 miles, or 6115 km

Traveling kind

3800 miles, that is the approximate distance we will travel to get to Madison, WI, via Banff, Jasper, Yellowstone and Bozeman of course (plus minus some miles depending on the final route). These past days I have been panicking a bit about all the stuff I have. I have lived here for almost 7 years. When I moved here I arrived with two bags....now I have A LOT more. Even though I have been slowly moving things to Madison during the past year I still seem to have a lot of things.

I have sorted through everything several times and this is really it, all these items are things I can not part with. I am going to ship X number of flat rate boxes, and maybe even a big box too. I was calculating the price to ship several large flat rate boxes vs one big box and it seemed to be pretty even price wise. Last time W was here he left his X-country skis here, because he brought a big bag of mine back to Madison. So now we have two pair of X-country skis, and one pair of backcountry skis to transport. Ski boots, mountaineering boots too. And the list goes on. I did a trial pack today and it looks ok, I wish I had less stuff. I might try to send some more boxes instead of trying to fit everything into the car.

How do you guys part with precious things? And more importantly, any ideas on how to pack a car in the most efficient way possible. I should also add that I have a few canvas and large photographs I have to transport too..

Also, any "must see" along the way? Of course Banff and Jasper are on the list. I have also heard that Liard River hot springs are suppose to be something to stop at too.
